As of August 2007, there were 75 clouded leopards living in 32 institutions participating
in the Clouded Leopard SSP program. Worldwide, there are approximately 223 cats in 69
institutions.

Note: Because of the shy nature of the clouded leopard, some facilities keep their animals
off public exhibit.

The World Famous San Diego Zoo is currently the home to five clouded
leopards. Two of these cats reside on exhibit for the public to view in an
area known as Monkey Trails and Forest Tales; their names are Dottie and
Tevi. The sisters were born February 19, 2002 in Tennessee. Dottie and
Tevi have incredibly friendly dispositions and enjoy daily contact with
their keepers.
The other three clouded leopards live at the Hunte Amphitheater. They can be
seen in our Wild Ones Shows. The male clouded is named Norman. He was born
on June 26, 2000 in Ohio. The two females are named Kya and Kilat; both
were born on August 17, 1998 in San Juan Batista, California. While it is
not common for this species of cat to be out in the open, the Zoo's clouded
leopards enjoy being on stage, jumping, climbing and scent marking to the
delight of our Zoo visitors. It is truly a treat for the crowds of visitors
we draw here at the San Diego Zoo. We invite you to come to our Hunte
Amphitheater's Wild Ones Show and watch these beautiful cats in action.

| | | | | The National Zoo is proud to house one of the only breeding pairs of clouded leopards in
the country. Our female Mook and male Tai were born in 2002 and were paired at a very young age at the
Columbus Zoo. They came to the National Zoo in 2006 as the first clouded leopards to ever be exhibited at
the National Zoo in the brand new Asia Trail exhibit. Mook and Tai can be seen snuggling in their bed of
wood wool most of the day, but the real action starts as the sun goes down and you can see both cats leaping
and playing with each other all around their exhibit. Although Mook and Tai are the first cloudeds to be housed
at the National Zoo, the institution is extremely lucky to have an off site research and breeding facility, the
Conservation and Research Center (CRC) located in Front Royal, Virginia. Here scientists have been studying the
reproductive and behavioral challenges of clouded leopards since the 1970s. Currently, there are 10 clouded
leopards housed at the CRC.

| | | | | Tucked away in the lush sub-tropical setting of Central Florida, the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens houses two pairs of clouded leopards in two separate areas. Visitors can observe the impressive arboreal skills of these beautiful cats in a 14-foot high natural outdoor enclosure. The exhibit has an adjoining holding area and private yard to help these shy and secretive animals feel comfortable. In this area, the zoo houses a pair of clouded leopards that produced 7 litters (9 cubs) for the zoo in years past. The male enjoys hiding in the bamboo and banana trees while the female enjoys hanging out up high and watching the world go by. The zoo’s commitment to the Clouded leopard SSP extends beyond what the public can see. Behind the scenes, the CFZBG has constructed the Clouded Leopard Reproduction Complex. This series of five outdoor enclosures currently houses a pair of clouded leopards with room to house four cats total. Each cat has its own enclosure as well as access to a central play yard. The design allows the staff to manage the clouded leopards in a quiet and private setting for the purpose of reproduction.

| | | | | Brookfield Zoo exhibits two clouded leopards, a male named Dongwa and a female named Sky. They were identified by the SSP as good breeding candidates based on their young ages and genetics. At this point they have not bred, but have made a lot of progress in becoming more comfortable with one another, so we are optimistic. We also house a male named Velo, who is retired from exhibit life due to old age and health concerns.

| | | | | We have a beautiful pair of clouded leopards here. Sheegwa, our female, is 4 years old and very sweet. And Kiri, our male, is 5 years old, and very handsome. He loves to hang on his log and loves bamboo. Unfortunately, they don't get along with each other, so they have to stay separated. With luck, hopefully we'll be able to artificially inseminate Sheegwa, and maybe someday have cubs.
